right now this local teacher is accused of having sex with a student in a classroom and he is expected to face a judge. and where the victim claims that the two met. and voters are still searching for -- and the investigators are still searching for a teen that ran over a deputy. what we're learn being his violent past. good morning. i'm darlene jones. it is 6:00 on the dot. this is a live look over downtown orlando.

it s we'll it is. we'll be in the mid-to upper 70s. get outside and enjoy t we don't get a weekend like this very often in february. but we're going to enjoy it. the satellite and the radar showing a lot of cloud coverage starting to push in from the coastline and we'll get sunshine in through the day. and one minor hiccup is you'll have a little patchy, dense fog. but that is lifting quickly and in the next 60 minutes, we'll look at big improvements one the sunshine does move in. and a touch of fog in ocala and the thickest fog in leesburg and daytona beach and titusville along the coast. and it will stay mild during the day today as we see the mid- to upper 70s inland and the low 70s along the coast line. and the easterly winds that

in the next two hours, a lake county teacher accused of having sex with a student in a classroom is expected to face a judge. we told you about 41-year-old marshal youngwright and his arrest. and we're live at the lake county jail this morning. and deputies said that the relationship started on an adult website. >> reporter: he claims that the two met on line but said it never went any further than that the deputies arrested marshal youngrice. they say that he drove a 17- year-old student and unlocked the gate and took her into a portable classroom where they had sex. it happened one night in november of 2015.

he denied any sexual activity, but told them that he admitted to hanging out with her after meeting her on the adult website called adult friend finder. the 17-year-old said that she was contacted by him on line in 2015 when he sent her a message using the website. she knew him because she was a former student of his and still attended the high school. he teaches history and serves as a head varsity cross-country coast and he spent a decade at leaseberg -- leesberg high school where he worked as the track coach. right now he's in jail with no bond. but that could change with he appears in front of a judge this morning.

closed in both directions as the police investigate a deadly crash. the driver was killed around 2:45 this morning. the police said that curry ford will be closed to dixie bell drive for several hours. we learn more information about what led up to the crash, we'll bring that to you. it's been five days and orlando police still have not found the infant who was born in a pine hills apartment complex this week. overnight, the police left the crime scene tape over part of the pond where the dive team spent hours searching yesterday. and an officer is there also guarding the area. the infant, the police are calling baby willow, was born at the willow bend apartments on monday. the neighbors are hoping that newborn will be found alive. >> when i see her and standing outside in the yard, i stop and talk to her every now and then or i see her when i by drive by.

is still being held in the orange county jail on a $50,000 bond. several agencies are searching for a teenager accused of running over a orange county deputy. the police said that carlos ortiz ran her over. she was treated for a broken foot and other injuries. we found out that ortiz has a long arrest history, including aggravate assault on another deputy last year. >> we don't have any reason to believe that he's armed with a firearm. but when you take the initiative to deliberately rundown a law enforcement officer in a uniform, you have the find set that you can be dangerous to others. >> the police n and florida highway patrol are on the lookout for ortiz. we told you that and orange county judge delayed the trial

running down an orlando police officer. he ran over williams anderson during a traffic stop and it was caught on camera on tuesday, his attempted murder trial was pushed back to give both sides more time to prepare. officer anderson is still recovering. the democratic candidates will face off in the nevada caucuses. and the republicans are looking ahead to the south carolina primary. megan hugh reports that the presidential hopefuls are trying to persuade voters. >> reporter: with the polls showing the lead in south carolina dwindling, donald trump is coming forward own sever fronts. >> boycott apple. >> reporter: after he said it was disgraceful that trump was not christian for wanting to wall off the mexican board. on friday trump softened the stance. >> i would say that the pope is

we will monitor the votes in both states and bring you the winners and the latest voting numbers tonight on eyewitness news at 10:00 and 11:00. hundreds of mourners gathered in washington d.c. today for the funeral and mass of supreme court justice scalia. his casket was displayed at the supreme court where he served for 30 years. president obama and the first lady also paid their respects to scalia. state health officials have confirmed the first case of the zika virus in orange county. right now there are 26 cases through the state. the officials believe that the orange county victim was infected during a trip to colombia. so far, none of the cases of the zika virus in florida have come from mosquitoes here. you can get the latest on the zika virus. go to wftv.com and click on the news tab and zika virus.

are still struggling to reach an agreement with the school board on pay raises. and teachers said they're not working overtime. >> this group that you see here left when the school ended at 3:00 yesterday. they say that the papers are going ungraded and e-mails are going unanswered. >> look beyond everything and to just have sympathy for us because a lot of us are barely surviving with the salary that we're making. >> district hopes to have the contract dispute resolve very soon. it is a big weekend nor race fans -- for race fans. the daytona 500 is tomorrow. and for the first time since 2008, the race is sold out. they credit this $400 million project for the rice in attendance.

weekend and it will be a beautiful day. and you'll see a lot of clouds that are offering along the coastline and we're not seeing the fog. but where it is clear further to the west and to the north that is the recipe that we need and clear skies and calmer winds and we've got the fog that is forming out to the west. but along the coast, we have a touch tv as well. but the high pressure is dominating and the big picture is lots of sunshine and a few more clouds rolling in tonight and tomorrow, but we're warming up across the area as we head into the next 24 hours. so a little fog in marion county and we're looking at a touch of fog in sumter and lake county. but the thickest fog is in volusia county and northern be right back brevard county. we're looking at 50s and 60s. it is a mild, gorgeous start with calm winds. and they'll be up to ten miles an hour inland and up to 15 along the coast so patchy fog

five-day forecast with the weekend always in view, it looks good. 82 by tuesday and we'll see the cold front push through and we'll see another system on wednesday that will give us a chance for showers and storms before we clear by thursday. we're now just hours away from the republican primary in south carolina. and political analysts stay is critical for several candidates, including those from florida. christopher heath asked what a good finish means for jeb bush and senator marco rubio. >> reporter: joining us is author of political playbook. we head into south carolina and it looks like it may be jeb's last stand and marco is setting expectations high or low? >> i think the expectations are being set for him. unlike in iowa, he's not doing a good job.

two brothers were killed at stone bridge reserve. they were shot as they got off an elevator. the family said antonio has two small children who are now without their father. >> a ten-month-old, a five-year- old, two kids, two children are here without a father. they have a loss here. crime line flyers are offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest. a former student said that he wants his statements tossed out because fbi agents violated his rights. his attorney convinced a federal judge to delay his march trial so they can review

we were 15 degrees below normal. february 7th, it was 59 degrees and the average is 74. so we're going to be above average as we head into the day today. but this weekend, we'll be five degrees above average as we flirt with 80 degrees. but february 2nd, we saw 84. so we've been all over the place this month and it looks like mother nature will continue to do that to us as we head into the last two weeks of february. and in ocala you'll see plenty of sunshine and apopka we'll start sunny. and we'll be busy in daytona as we have the daytona 500. it will be beautiful and we'll get sunshine and 71 for the high there this afternoon. a lake county teacher accused of having sex way student inside a classroom is in jail without bond. and he's expected to face a judge in the next couple hours. julie is live at the lake county jail. deputies is he had that the

sexual relationship with the teenager. >> reporter: he denied having sex with her. but he admitted that he did meet her on line and that the two hung out. the lake county sheriff's office arrested a 41-year-old teacher at east ridge high school in clermont who they say had sex with a student there. according to the victim it happened around 1:00 a.m. in november 2015. marshal youngrice unlocked the gates and had sex inside his classroom. >> you never know who to trust and we trust the teachers and coaches with our kids. >> reporter: the 17-year-old student told deputies that he contact her in late 2015 using an adult website known as adult friend finder. the victim knew the teacher because she was a former student of his at the high school she still attends.

he teaches history and serves as the girls' cross-country head coach. and youngrice is being held on no bond. but that could change as soon as appears before a judge later this morning. reporting live in lake county. the state fire marshal is trying to determine what sparked a fire at the tymber skan apartments in orlando. we told you after it became a hotspot for crime. the fire spread to eight units before they could put it out. no one was hurt and all the units were vacant. volusia county deputies need heavier equipment to continue the search for human remains in a wooded area there. the remains were first reported near highway 95 by a surveyor. they believe they could belong

sergeant pierce may have known ortiz for her work in the juvenile unit. and we know that the sheriff's office is very familiar with the address telling us that the deputies have been out here 12 times in the past six months. we don't know if any of the calls were related to ortiz. only four times did the deputies file reports. we tried gown contact ortiz's mother. but people on the property of the duplex told us that they did not know her or her son. and the search continues for a teenager who just five months ago was arrested for assaulting an officer with a car in another escape. this morning state troopers and the orlando police are searching for the teenager. he was last seen in a white honda hatchback. sanford city leaders will try to get help from residents in solving crimes to encourage

with any tips about unsolved cases. they are still looking into leads for at least 7 unsolved murders since 2010. the events will start at 10:00 a.m. at the sanford police department. and the alleged brevard county bank robber was caught on surveillance is out on bond. you can see him taking money from the clerk and leaving. reed did not get far before he was caught by an off-duty deputy. we have learned new information about the murder of an orlando cab driver whose car was found abandoned last summer. we sorted through the photos from the crime seen. you see michael smith's burned out cab. and the suspect, paul strickland said that he and two friends were in the cap and one of his friends pulled out a gun. smith's body has not been found.

and the surf is four to six feet. from west to eat in the villages, there will be plenty of sunshine and high of 74. and winter park and the i-4 corridor, lots of sunshine to start. but then later on this afternoon, like this morning, we'll see a few more clouds rolling in after 4:00 with a high of 74. and cocoa beach, a cloudy start and the sun will break free later on this afternoon and high of 71. two lake county parents are facing child abuse charges when the school officials contact the dcf when a child came to school with injuries. the man beat the child in january and told the wife to lie about it. and they kept the victim out of school for days to try to let the injuries heal. the school officials saw it and reported it.

we're dealing with a little cloud coverage. but we'll get sunshine in here today. and with the partly cloudy skies today and tomorrow, it will be pretty. and the high pressure is dominating in the atlantic and we'll get an easterly flow today and once the southeasterly wind starts kicking in we'll start to warmup. so a lot of fog in marion and sumter and lake county and we're also dealing with some fog along the coastline and tightsville. and cooler up -- titusville. we're and cooler up in the north. we'll look at 70s ruling, mid- to upper 70s inland and low 70s along the coast. easterly winds will not be kicking in as much as yesterday. so you can see a along the coastline, we're going to see some stubborn clouds today but we'll get some sunshine in here trying to bring a few sprinkles

the atmosphere is too dry. if we get any showers, it will stay offshore in the atlantic. and tomorrow, we'll be looking at partly cloudy skies once again and then mostly cloudy skies come in and set up shop for our monday. and that is all ahead of our next frontal system that will make an appearance as we move into tuesday. as the front starts to shift, in we'll look at showers and the possiblity of a few thunderstorms tuesday and wednesday. but it doesn't look to be widespread. so we'll track that for you. hour by hour in downtown orlando, we'll be moving into the 70s by midday and then we'll be warming up to right around 71 degrees later on this afternoon. and then this evening 75. tonight 50s and milder than this morning. and the five-day -- five-day forecast with the weekend always in view, 82 on tuesday before the cold front moves in and we'll be looking the 60s by thursday. looking for something to do a lot of greet weekend events.

download the new app and we'll have fantastic weather for the daytona 500 tomorrow. we have discovered serious problems in the state's prison system, staffing problems, low pay and crumbling facilities. and now the cuts and neglect are costing taxpayers. and christopher heath went to the state capitol to ask the head of the department what is being done and if it is already too late. >> reporter: you'll find the central florida reception center. 1400 inmates and 225 guards and six months from now, many of the 225 guards will work somewhere else and you'll pay to replace them. >> we're seeing a lot of our experiences officers leaving. >> reporter: in the last decade, the state prison population has brown by 10,000 and the number of correctional officers has fallen by more than 2,000. and to fill the gab, the state pays overtime, lots of it $40 million in the last year alone. >> but in time, away from the

stress. >> reporter: and the cost of taxpayers mounting, we went to speak to the head of the doc. >> she have a problem. >> reporter: in and candid interview, doc head julie jones admitted that the problems are widespread and the solutions are costly. jones is pushing the legislature for money to hire more staff but admits keeping staff will be a problem because county jails pay more. orange county pays $6,000 than the state. >> she'll be going to the legislature for funding, i support what she's doing. >> reporter: governor scott's budget does not call for money sidestepped the questions referring to hire for officers but no plan to keep them. christopher heath, eyewitness
